Farmer/Rancher - Entrepreneur - Cannabis Cultivation Instructor - HVAC Certified
Asad's career started long before Zion Herbals was even a thought. He began his HVAC career at the ripe age of 17 working for the LA Unified School District. A work-related injury quickly jolted this path to a screeching halt and eventually became the fuel & inspiration for the focus and root of Zion Herbals! In 2014 we learned that he had a stage 5 rotator cuff tear easily found by a new doctor & several massage therapists. This injury was untreated for 4 years while LAUSD drug their feet in court, Asad was in need of pain relief and assistance with his depression he. His discomfort, pain, loss of over 80 lbs. and sleepless nights were causing depression and hopelessness in Asad. He had always loved working with his hands, taking things apart and trying to remember how to put them back together or fix them, now he was being told he would never use his arm again. This more than enough reason for IxChel to seek out holistic medicine used by our ancestors to help her husband in ways Western medicine and lawyers were not willing to. Shortly after being married in 2012, Asad wanted to leave Los Angeles, California. The only place we've ever known was no longer a home to him and he wanted more from life for us.
With his love for working with the land, animals and being outdoors, Colorado was the top option for the Mooney family in 2013! Our dreams of living on open land had been put on hold so that we could establish ourselves in the Denver community, establish our business and gain some balance after relocating and leaving our families. Asad pushed for us to buy a new house in Aurora that was home to our operations. Eventually, we felt a calling to new territory and with all his experience we were able to upgrade the home we bought and sell it in order to make our move to New Mexico! Over the course of the last 8 years, he's held a number of vast positions related to construction, apartment maintenance, farming, addictions counseling and a load of customer service. He's always had a keen interest in handy work and when you really get to know him, he is a philanthropist at heart. Asad enjoys supporting his community by teaching, guiding and always having a loving open heart that enjoys learning new things.
Due to his supportive, protective and encouraging nature, paired with everything else listed above, Zion Herbals has been able to build so quickly over the past 8 years! We invite you to join us on our journey, stay connected and learn more about us! You can follow Asad HERE or learn more about his social equity work at his new website for Crooked Arrow Farm LLC.
